Final Fantasy XV: Pocket Edition Coming To Smartphones

One of my favorite things in the game industry is its many surprising announcements. However, I don’t think I ever expected something like this. Square Enix recently announced Final Fantasy XV: Pocket Edition, a retelling of the original FFXV for iOS, Android and Windows 10 phones. The game will span across ten episodes, carry a completely different art style and simplified touch controls for the platform. The story and characters will be the same as in the original console release. The release is slated for this fall, with all ten episodes coming out at the same time. The first episode will be free to download, but you’ll have to pay for the rest. Go ahead and watch the reveal trailer above and some screenshots below.

In my opinion, I think this is pretty awesome. It’s a creative and different take on a really good game. I’m very interested to see how this game looks like in execution and how big it’ll actually be. I’m currently playing through the PS4 FFXV, so now is a good a time as any to make comparisons and revisit earlier parts of the game in its odd, almost “Theatrhythm” art style. I’m sure some folks will scratch their heads at this announcement (don’t read the comments on the trailer; you’ll catch the stupid), but I’m very much looking forward to it.
